Bara Burger w/ Zainab Foods

  • Prep: 25 min
  • Total: 60 min

  • Meat
  • Vegetables

Ingredients

NOTE: This recipe makes 3 Bara Burgers.

For the Bara:
- half of a pack of Zainab Foods “Bara Mix”
- 150 ml of water
- 1 tbsp oil

-oil for frying

*Follow the instructions on the back of the package and let the dough rise for 30-60 minutes

For the chicken burger:
- 300 gr minced chicken (you could use vegan or other meats, but might have to add some breadcrumbs or an egg)
- 1 shallot (finely chopped)
- 1 tsp garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp Hindustani masala
- 1 tsp tomato puree
- 1 tsp Madame Jeanette (finely chopped, optional)
- salt and pepper to taste

- 2-3 tbsp of oil for cooking

For garnish:
- 2 tbsp Tomato/Roti sambal (I bought mine)
- 2 tbsp yoghurt
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- lettuce leaves
- red onion (finely chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your Bara’s according to the package instructions on the back of Zainab Food “Bara Mix”.

  2. Then finely chop your onions, garlic and Madame Jeanette and add it to a bowl with the rest of the chicken burger ingredients.

  3. Form patties and fry them in some oil on medium to low heat. Make sure they are cooked through and golden brown. This takes about 25 minutes.

  4. When the Bara dough has risen, you can form patties (flatten them a bit) and fry them in pan with some oil. Make sure the oil isn’t too hot and fry them until they are puffy and golden brown. You can insert a skewer and check the inside. It took me about 7 minutes for each Bara and in between I flipped them over to prevent them from browning too much.

  5. When the Bara’s are done, let them sit on some kitchen towel paper and prepare the rest of the ingredients (the sauce, slices of onion) for the burgers. You can also vary with these and add tomatoes, different kinds of chutney or lettuce leaves. I kept it simple.

  6. Then assemble your Bara Burger and start with a layer of sauce, some lettuce leaves, the chicken burger, more sauce and the onion. Enjoy immediately!
